"I have been elected to the neighborhood council on two occasions. I got out the vote in numbers unheard of previously for an NC election. We did it, not by throwing money at it, but by going door to door, by calling people and by word of mouth. The democratic process in this city has been rendered almost useless to the regular citizen as more and more money has been thrown at elections. Candidates for City Council today either have their own money or access to folks who have money. I have neither. The incumbent spent over a ½ million dollars on the last contested Council District 4 election. That is purchasing, not winning an election and that surely is not what Jefferson and Madison had envisioned.
This election ought to and can be won by people volunteering and going door to door. This election can be about character, intellect, ideas and reputation and not about your connections and how much money you can throw at it.
A victory in this manner will send a message to others. Qualified regular “unconnected” citizens can run for and win public office.
I need your help. You have my word! I will not change! I will not sell out! I am doing this not for myself, but for you.
Let’s not purchase this election. Let’s win it. To change the way our government works, we must change the way that it is chosen. Please sign up to volunteer.
Working together, anything’s possible”
